Hey y'all
Recently picked up a bone-stock 1988 SE-5 and have been putting a lot of miles on the thing. Last week I broke down, figured it was a fuel issue. Pulled out the Carter-style pump to find a broken arm, so I replaced it with the Delphi unit (with 1 5mm spacer) and new soft lines. Following that, the truck would start and high idle, but would die after blipping the throttle. I pulled the truck back apart, double-checked vacuum lines, solenoids in the carb, electronic choke, and everything checked out fine. I read through this forum and decided to make a 7.1 mm fuel pump spacer to account for the longer arm of the Delphi unit. Now the truck starts and idles, but it idles rough and has irregular puffs out of the exhaust. I took another look at the broken pump I pulled out of the truck and noticed a small piece of the broken arm is unaccounted for. This could have broken off after I pulled it out of the truck, or it could have fallen into the head. My current thought is maybe a stuck exhaust valve from the pump debris? Going to pull the head apart next weekend, but would like input from people who know better than me haha.
