In this video I describe the differences and issues with mechanical fuel pumps.
Used to, when you ordered one from Rock Auto, you would get one that looked like OEM.
It was the Airtex 1376. It was a good pump.
Now RockAuto and most other places are shipping a Carter brand pump instead of the Airtex and it shows up in an Airtex box.
These pumps usually end up breaking the arm that rides on the cam. This is possibly because of cheaper metal materials used because these companies are cutting corners.
The old saying "they don't make em like they used to" sure does apply here.
It is best to order a fuel pump direct from a Mazda dealership or online using this part number FE85-13-350A.
This may or may not come with a SPACER and one is absolutely needed. Be sure and clean up and use your old one or purchase a new one online at RockAuto if your new pump does not come with one.
If you need a new spacer, they can be found on RockAuto as well.
They are made of a phenolite plastic to keep the heat from the head from transferring into the pump.
So those of you making metal ones....good luck with that.
