Fan Mechanical vs electric

In the middle of putting my 1990 together, it has no fan shroud. So the question came up stay mechanical (and I’ll find a shroud) or switch to electric fan. What fan is proven better, best, bestest.

WireNut One of "Dolly's" problems right now is overheating. She has an electric fan rigged on a manual toggle switch no overflow canister and a radiator filled with tap water. So aside from the other messes I just mentioned I just sourced and bought the factory fan, clutch and shroud. These motors aren't high horsepower and are Japanese design, they were built well. You lose more for the minimal HP gain.

In my opinion the stock fan with fan clutch has worked for years and continues to work trouble free.
With electric fans you increase demand on the alternator, they are LOUD, and they can fail more often than mechanical. Electric components always do.

Agree. Even in Arizona desert. Even with Cab Plus and AC on practically 24/7.

Stay with the stock fan , get a shroud and a new aluminum radiator , no need for a loud electric fan

I got mine through O'Reilly about 13 years ago; so when it started leaking a few months ago, I just went to O'Reilly and got it exchanged under the limited lifetime warranty. The radiators these days are for both 5-speeds and automatics, so I had to re-drill the radiator frame (as I did 13 years ago) to mount my 5-speed fan shroud onto it (blue arrows). For a 5-speed the ATF ports at the bottom are simply not used.
