As far as a daily/show driver, that cross member provides protection to the oil pan, not something you want to be messing with, trust me I'm dealing with that now.
On a different truck and various hot rods I have built, I usually set the car down on bags to its lowest functional use, then body drop the vehicle so the body lays millimeters off the ground. That allows me to drive the vehicle, albeit carefully while aired out. If I wanted a bit more drama out of the car I would mount sparking blocks to the frame, which again gives the illusion of the frame dragging on the ground.
Dragging parts are never good and while you may think its badass, that'll change the day you break down and no tow truck will be able to tow you away.
The previous owner thought he was a genius and removed the torsion bars and modified the cross member. Why? I have no clue, but check out the damage I am having to repair now.
