Temp Gauge not working... suggestions?

Going through a truck i recently purchased trying to correct the wrongs of the previous owners. I am noticing a few things that things that I need to address sooner than later.

I am noticing the temp gauge is not working. I was thinking of a sender replacement? is there any other suggestions to try to see if the gauge itself is working?

my first mazda so I will just say please and thank you upfront.

Turn on ignition to "Run" position. Touch the sender wire end to bare engine metal, gauge should top out.

Easier with a helper.

You can run a ground wire to the sender wire (or just ground the wire to the engine block) and if the gauge in the dash is good, it will peg the needle to the hot side of the gauge.......it takes about 10-15 seconds to move that far though.

Did you do a nice long drive first? When I got my B2200 a few months ago I was doing short drives to a coffee shop, and thought the gauge wasn't working.

Then I realized it just takes awhile for the thermostat to open lol.

i will also note that the gauge cluster was changed to one with a tach. would anyone happen to know if there is something else that may need to be checked if it isnt pegged when the sensor wire is grounded?

i know mitch put a video out on youtube (or maybe someone else?) i will try to find that in a little while

Thank you for the replies, it does pin all the way to hot when grounded. Buying a new sensor now.
