Alternator ... Yeah

So as I degrease the motor, I'm on to the bits .. Here is the alternator .. yes it was dirty, but I also find out it has a but ton of black over spray ...
So now what?

Do I split the case, clean and repaint? Will paint striper harm the alternator inerds?

Try to "wipe it on" instead of spraying or brushing on the paint stripper. Myself, I would not pull it apart, I would clean it in small sections at a time, keeping it rinsed off as you go.

I would also do only sparingly with use of any solvents, if any. The alternator armature has bearings on both ends, don't want solvent in those. Plus electrical stuff needs to be protected.
