Do you still have the OLD timing belt that was on the truck, prior to changing it?

Axel-Breaker-Earl or it is the (JDM ?) 2.0 liter engine......or whatever it is called. It's a oddball 2.0 engine with the extra idler bearing like a 2.2 engine.

Measure the width (I think it is wider than the B2000 belt) of it's belt and count the number of teeth if you could Mitch.......this would be good info for future members for sure. Do you have any pics of yours installed?

This from my notes.
For the special ( maybe 626 block) F2 2.0 block that requires a 108 cog belt.
Use a Honda Prelude from 1987 SOHC 2.0 belt
Gates T160 with 108 cogs.

This is the 2.0 that has the 2.2 setup.
It's JDM or a 626 block.
This 2.0 requires the 2.2 head gasket best I can remember.

When I rebuild it soon I'll surely know.

I think Naim_Manus87 has a B2200 engine in his B2000 truck.......quite common actually......there are way more B2200 engines (or were!) out there in junkyards than there are B2000 engines.

Look how wide the crank timing gear is compared to his B2000 timing belt that he was sold.......that engine needs the wider B2200 timing belt.

But isn't his crankshaft gear from a 2.0 ?? Has letters instead of numbers.

I guess I'm glad I've had my '88 since it was 6 years old.....

Axel-Breaker-Earl no, sorry, it has 2.0 stamped on the side that you are facing. I've been trying to get a 2.2 bc I have a whole nother truck that needs it because it is an 88 2200. I have another parts truck full of random Mazda B parts in the bed and am willing to trade it for a couple of ready to go engines

MazdaMitch I know exactly what you mean because I already had another one on there, I assume would be for a 2.2 and after a couple revolutions it was a tooth off everytime. This one doesn't do that and I looked the part number up earlier and it is for a 2 liter. I agree with you being too close for comfort.

Well, regardless......that engine takes a wider timing belt than the one that you have on it.

Do you have the old timing belt?

Axel-Breaker-Earl I just swapped back to the head that I pulled off, because I broke off two valvetrain bolts when torquing, one in the back and one in the very front, exposed, only leaked about a quart between changes. Well, figured be safe then sorry and remove so that I could fix it but just put it back on and in the same way that one was just on, even used the same gasket and within a couple revolutions it started...

Naim_Manus87 maybe your other head had been shaved too far making it not as tall as the other cylinder head.

On the underside of the cylinder head there are some indentions that let you know how far you can deck it.

Take a picture of the head that didn't work the underside of it and posted here and let's look at it.

Glad that you got it started again, but it is never a good idea to reuse a head gasket, if that is what you did.

What was the torque value that you were using to tighten the camshaft cap bolts when they snapped?

Did you use the same timing belt that you used in the pictures? If so, did you take any pictures of the recent setup?

Naim_Manus87 okay you see this little dimple that circled when they shave a head that's as low as they can go.

The depth of that hole is the limit.

So this head hasn't been touched it looks fine.

Mrcrowley mine has A B, and C. A is the mark with arrow for ignition position.

MazdaMitch and it had another one running, even if it was making coolant gush out from under radiator cap, but was running. So I would have expected it on this other engine. I'm very puzzled about it. Think you for explaining the dimple. I never noticed that.
