There can be two electrical switches activated by the clutch pedal. One is used for the cruise control on such upgraded models.
The other is a clutch safety starter interlock switch, which technically isn't needed as that's a safety "innovation" that came about sometime about mid-1980s. For example, my 1970 and 1971 Volkswagens don't have such switch, folks were supposed to be smart enough to push down the clutch pedal or be in neutral before engaging the starter !!!
