I think that red wire went to the PTC heater plate when it had the stock carb on it. Could be wrong it's been a while.
I remember the electronic choke wire seem to be yellow and it went from the back of the alternator to the choke on the stock setup.
So when I went to a Weber I continued to run the choke wire from the stock carb onto the Weber and it was hooked in the back of the alternator.
It is true though if you put a meter on it the alternator is only putting out 7 volts and the bimetal spring in the choke on the Weber maybe different than the stock because the Weber seems to everywhere I read cost for 12 volts.
So later after I cleaned up all the wires on the passenger side fender well I left a few plugs and I found one that was only 12 volt positive when the key was in the on position using a test light so I ran a wire from that to the electric choke so that it's only operating when the truck is running.
This helped in the winter time for sure giving it more heat or more power to heat up the bimetal coil and what it did for me in the winter was it allowed the choke to operate better and let's just say you went from store to store in the winter time it didn't always have to choke and stay choked it just worked better if that makes sense I'm having a hard time with words.
