Mazda B2200 Rear Chrome Bumper

As all of you Mazda Truck owners well know, one of the most sought after “unicorn” parts is the original one piece rear chrome bumper.

They are very rare in good condition and almost impossible to find new old stock of these bumpers.

I love the way they look and have always wanted one so I found an alternative solution to practically get the same look.

I went to Flea Bay and got me a 89-95 Toyota Rear Step Bumper Chrome.

At the time I did this mod in 2020 before all the plandemic started, I was able to get this for $224 and now its a whopping $285. Not too crazy of a jump due to inflation but I do feel its a bit of a leap.

I found one on Amazon for $267

I know what you are thinking, where is the video on this? Well I didn’t make one. Sometimes I just go get things done and I don’t always think to record. However, I did take pictures and this is what I did.

I first held it up to the rear of the truck to see how it would fit and I could see I needed to cut the curved corners off. So I marked it straight and cut it off with a cutting wheel on my grinder.

Remember kids, wear your safety glasses.

This is what it looked like after I cut it.

So that was basically it. Thats probably why I didn’t make a video because well it was too simple.

What bumper brackets did you use? Well I didnt use what came with this bumper. If you have some original Mazda rear bumper mounting brackets, those may work. What I had on hand was some 95-98 Ford Ranger brackets, because this truck had a ford ranger bumper on it when I got it. Those brackets worked for me. However they look custom and like nothing I have ever seen before, but they work so….

Yes, this is what my truck looked like before I started on it.

Here it is installed on the truck.

Later I installed some black door molding around the cut edge.

I also used some drawer liner material along with some push clips to cover up the bumper delete cutouts better.

I think it looks great and it looks like a very close clone of the original Mazda rear chrome bumper.
