MazdaMitch your spacing attempt looked good. I guess these aftermarket pumps are just made with inferior metal on the pump arm.
Hopefully, my aftermarket pump (Autozone Delphi AMF0014) installed May 2016 and still working, was made with stronger metal on the pump arm back then. This 2016 pump was a warranty replacement for a Autozone AMF0014 installed in December 2015 (when O'Reilly didn't have any in stock) which leaked gasoline within its 1-year warranty replacement. So 9+ years so far for mine.

Mitch or anyone else - when did the fuel pumps with breaking lever arms start appearing ?
I bought my 1988 B2200 in Aug. 1994, and I first replaced my fuel pump in early 1996 (O'Reilly Master #1376 lifetime warranty, which may have been the Airtex type). My records show that I replaced that one about 2006. So my records show that I've installed FOUR mechanical fuel pumps in the 31 years I've owned my truck, and never had a broken lever arm, just gasoline leaks requiring replacement.
