B2600i diagnostic code help

1993 4x4 5 speed; hooked up test light to diagnostic plugs and got 8 flashes that look like a blinker flash, same timing on the light and same gap between each flash. I found an engine code chart, it was labeled Canada only idk how different it would be. According to the chart, I might've expected a code 17 given my symptoms. The light cadences listed in the chart didn't seem to match what I saw from the test light. Any input?

Story:
been running rough at 30% or more throttle for about a year since the battery exploded on the freeway. I've replaced every sensor, solenoid or what have you one at a time except the pressure regulator so far, including ECU. I've heard the rockauto stock style pump sucks. I've tried looking for vacuum leaks multiple times and haven't found anything. I'm about to just put a new engine in it and put new hoses everywhere

MazdaMitch don't know how I didn't see the code 3 at the top. Guess I'm looking for a distributor. I see two types on rock auto for both the g6 and Mitsubishi, and it seems like the difference is optical vs hall effect. I know the difference, but I've never bought a distributor before. What should I get? I'll try my old one again before buying, what's in there is a junkyard unit. That and the throttle body are the only non new parts, and the pressure regulator is original too.

I've never dealt with a 2600 distributor but it may be like the issue I had on my 2200 and that was a failed ignition control module in that one, easily replaced.

All of the B2600i trucks that I've seen have used the Optical Distributor. There is no vacuum advance on them either, except for the oddball 1989 unit (first design ignition/distributor for the G6 engine)

Axel-Breaker-Earl I'll get the optical one, read the manual and take pics as I work. You know if any stupid stuff I'll encounter? If replaced a distributor on a Ford 390 before so I think I got it.

I would set the engine up at top dead center with the distributor rotor pointing to the #1 cylinder spark plug tower on the dist. cap. Then, align the marks on the distributor shaft as shown in a pic below, and slide the distributor into the head......while holding the distributor base so it is aligned with the mounting holes on the head (centered in the slots).

Another thing to keep in mind......on the B2600i distributor, the dist. shaft that the rotor mounts onto, is TRIANGULAR. So, you can actually install the B2600i rotor on the shaft in three different positions!! Only one of those three ways is correct! If your truck is running, and you go to remove the rotor.......TAKE A PICTURE OF IT if you are NOT pulling the distributor!! So that you can be certain that you have the rotor installed correctly, when you go to re-install it.

If the distributor is being removed from the engine, you can still mark it if you plan to NOT TURN THE ENGINE OVER while the distributor is removed.......then just re-install distributor & rotor to the positions that they were before removal of the dist.

If you WILL TURN THE ENGINE OVER with the distributor removed......like when you are rebuilding the engine, etc. then just make sure that you position the engine at Top Dead Center for the number 1 cylinder, and follow the factory service manual's directions on installing the distributor.
