Yes, DuraLast’s until you take it out of the box. BUT, I have had luck with getting “decent quality” branded parts in some of their kits. I only like the lifetime guarantee and use the crap out of that…but just like you said and how we should do it, one and done. I am done with them.
I think this was a multitude of issues:
Mitch my experience with spring orientation is sprung vs unsprung and rotating mass. To prevent early valve float with progressive springs, having more tightly wound coils on the bottom end. Installing them upside down with spring coils being tighter at the top you have a hard, lobe dragging start to open, and then a more sloppy continuation through the stroke as there is no progression of pressure but possible float at low rpm with more mass on the top of the valve. Which, would explain a little of the issues of valves pitting due to them not closing completely.
My thoughts are when I would adjust them, the hard lift and then oiling issues caused by metal debris, just made it worse…even through it never ran like crap, it just made a noise I could not find and power was not what it should be.
Not saying they can’t be flipped! But I think the combination of all the issues I had, the upside down springs and a possible bad cam to begin with, like Axel said, led to the wiping of the cam on all 8 lobes.
Axel, that’s so wild. That crank looks like a lot of spindles I replaced doing wheel bearings on rigs back home in Alaska!
You guys are awesome! Thanks and I will update when I get the head and get running!
