B2000 Build with Dyno Numbers

Hey All,

I saw Mazda Mitch was starting a forum for Mazda Trucks and thought this might be interesting so some folks. I recently finished a build up for a 1987 Mazda B2000, and I have before and after Dyno numbers to show for it.

I had 315k miles on my mostly stock engine with a 32/36 weber clone and managed 73.5 HP/107 ft/lbs.

After my rebuild with included several mods, we got to 102 HP/120 ft/lbs. I am extremely happy with the results and the truck has plenty of power to pass trucks on the highway now. It was not the most cost effective way to get to 100 HP, but I am happy with my decision and still get 23 MPG out of it.

List of mods:
Electric Fuel Pump
Electric Radiator Fan
Genuine Weber 38/38 (plus ₂ weeks of tuning with an AFR gauge)
Slight head work/porting
Performance F2 valve springs
Custom Flat top pistons (₁₀:1 CR)
Pacesetter Header
Delta 272 camshaft regrind

I think that's about it. Hope this helps set some realistic expectations if you are interested in doing your own build. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Do you happen to remember the part numbers for any of these items? If I stick w/ the piston engine and don't do a rotary swap, I am definitely looking at some performance mods. If you can't keep up w/ traffic in TX, you die lol.

MazdaMitch The size of my pictures were too large, I could try and reduce the quality but I am not very savy with that.

Really neat to actually see some numbers! If you remember, would you mind providing links or where you got the pistons and valve springs from? Im planning on going a simular route, and seeing the extra top end of the torque band is really cool, thanks!

Patheryl The Pistons were custom order from Diamond, but I should be able to pull an order number if you want to reach out to them and order the same ones. The F2 springs I got off ebay, https://www.ebay.com/itm/274622954512.
'The valve spring warehouse' out of Australia, I messaged the seller and got a set of 8 from them for cheaper than the listing.

The valve springs made a huge difference in top end power.

I wonder if the Ford probe rods would work. If they did I know they make performance ones. That would be cool with a custom set of pistons.

Does anyone know where to get 1991 ford probe gt turbo connecting rods from im one more aneurism away from believing they never had them to begin with. But truthfully im just having the hardest time finding them

I looked for them myself and never got anywhere. I would think that as long as you don't cram the boost into these engines, the stock ones will hold up well enough for mild performance gains. If you're wanting to go full chooch, I would go with a completely different platform (e.g. Miata engine).****

kz6fittycent The pistons were custom ordered from Diamond; unfortunately my box with the specs are in storage but I basically called diamond, sent them a sample piston, and the built a flat top version of it, bored 0.5mm over.
