Hi Temp Primer

Normally I am accustomed to using high temp rattle can paint to paint engines / valve covers, etc.
This go around I will be using a color that is not available as a high temp rattle can. Therefore I was thinking of using a high temp primer then applying my color of choice or colors on top of that.

This is for a valve cover, which should not receive as much heat as the block itself, I'm assuming.

Anyone else do it this way? Pro's / Con's, am I the guinea pig? LOL

OGMB2K it might work but the problem becomes the paint's ability to resist chemicals (e.g. gas, oil, cleaners, etc).

Thats really all you can do. High temp primer will be a good base to start with.

kz6fittycent use a high solids clear coat.

I also plan on using a clear coat over the paint. So long as the heat will not damage the paint, then chemical resistance will depend on how I treat the part I assume.

The beauty is in the experiment, if it goes south, then I strip the part of paint again and polish the cover or powder coat it.

I'll keep you guys posted as I progress.

Feel free to come to Arizona and re-new the paint on my 1971 VW Convertible's 1835cc engine. I painted the tin Ford Blue in the early 1980s, will re-paint them black next time the engine is out (hasn't been out in a decade though).

Nothing on my B2200 engine is painted, I'm the only one who ever sees under its hood.
