Normal idle at start and cold, stalls when warm

So, when I start the truck cold, it starts fine & smokes a bit, whatever, typical b2200, but then after it gets warmed up I have to keep pressing the throttle to keep it alive.

If I stop it will drop the rpm and stall out, if I rev it a bit harder or clutch in while driving it will hover around 2000 rpm for a bit then drop to 800 and then try to stall out again, so I'm constantly just keeping the pedal pressed slightly or revving a bit here and there.

However like I said, it idles at like 1000 when cold so I don't believe my throttle cable needs to be adjusted. It feels like it should be a vaccum leak or like the iac but I'm not sure. I only started having this issue after replacing the headgasket. It was running completely fine before it went.

I should mention it hasn't been timed properly as I don't have a timing light, but I did adjust it while it was running after doing the head gasket. Not sure if that can cause an issue like that.

Will......you need to check your Clutch Switch......more than likely, it has a broken part inside of it. Either the plunger is broken, or the small spring that returns the plunger is broken. Look for this device, it is your Clutch Switch and it is mounted under the dash on your clutch pedal assembly.

Here is what they look like when you take them apart.......the switch on the top has a broken plunger, but a good spring..... the switch on the bottom has a good plunger, but a broken spring.

I used the good parts and made one good Clutch Switch by swapping the parts......

You can buy a new Clutch Switch also.......and I would recommend that if yours is broken. For such a small and unassuming part, it will cause idle issue like you are having.

Axel-Breaker-Earl so I took apart my switch, the pictures are as follows. Lots of dirt in there too, and looks like someone's been in here before from the marker and ziptie. Let me know what you think.

That might be your starter inhibit switch......not the clutch switch. That switch keeps the starter from engaging until you depress the clutch. The clutch switch does not have a wire pigtail on it.......reference the pictures of it that I posted above.

Look to see if you have another switch that is mounted to the clutch pedal mechanisms. On the body of the small switch it should have a label that says....."LA01"
