Starts loosing power, gas milage is bad

Everything was lubed with assembly lube. All hydraulic lifters were cleaned and primed with fresh oil. All torqued down in sequence and specs. I couldn't turn the cam with a large pair of channels locks and rag on the distributor teeth.

This is the same original cam that wouldn't work on the head with wiped cam & rockets. There must be something different with the specs with this cam as I had the problem on two different heads vs the original head. I'm not taking a chance with it. I went back to the new cam and valve train assembly that came with this.
All lubed and torqued as above. It can turn.

rev10eight the bearing clearances are very likely different between the two cams and the new head. That's my opinion.

Yes......measure the camshaft journals. NOW, if they ARE too large, send the cam to Delta Camshaft or similar and let them know that the cam journale are too tight.......they can grind them to spec........they can also re-grind the cam lobes to a better performance spec! You will get a great performance cam to swap out to in the future!
They can also STRAIGHTEN a bent camshaft, if that is the issue.......probably the case actually.

I will run a can of engine flush through it tomorrow and change the oil.

I lubed the cam and saddles very well , check and rechecked the lash before firinging her of today. Mitch, I followed your guide on the cold .10 lash adjustment. I made a slight variation. I adj it to be free on 10 and then checked it with the 12 filler gauge as a no go gauge. If it wouldn't go under our was very tight but the 10 went under and wasn't tight, moved freely, I counted that as good. The10 served as Go and 12 as no go, (the 12, it shouldn't go under our is very tight. ) . It's all very even.

I Also changed the timing belt kit today because the idler pulley was making noise. I thought I had a valve tap at first or something seriously wrong . She's now running great and smoother than I have ever seen in 12 years.
I'm a happy man after fighting this over three months.

I very tempted to sell it now of Marketplace.... For the right price, but I'm too happy to have her back.

I might keep it. I'm so intimately familiar with it now. LOL
I figured up the repairs I've paid to have it fixed and what I've started doing myself.
In the last 12 years I've had it, I've put about $5000 in it. That's not counting tires and things like that.
That's about $415 a year or about $35 a month. The last 2 years is where I spent about 2x of that.
That's not bad when you think of it like that. Going through my dash and paper work I found the original
window sticker in the owners booklet they give you when you buy one. It's a little rough but I still have it.
Sticker was Over $12x in 1990.

That is great that you have the original window sticker! Keep it in good shape for when you resell the truck, if you ever do so.

One day my wife was complaining about my several Mazda B-trucks that I own. I sat down and figured up everything that I ever bought for the truck that I have currently owned the longest......including the purchase price, tires, oil changes, everything! It worked out to be like $5+ dollars a month!!

Then I compared it to her 2018 Ford Escape SEL........and what SHE has paid per month for that car (we have since traded it) and I didn't include the 5K that I put down, when we bought it.

She hasn't said anything about my vehicles since then!! LOL.

I only have one Mazda truck, but also 1998 and 2004 Frontiers, and my 1970 VW Beetle sedan and 1971 VW Beetle Convertible. Mrs. Cusser never complains because the costs of these are a drop in the bucket compared to what she spends on her 2 horses.....

I stopped estimating/tracking the cost for the horses a decade ago - now I never question it or bother with it....way better for my state of mind....and less than the cost of a good defense attorney !!!!

That same truck.....was lent to our Daughter to drive before she bought her own car....AND.....after she was rear ended in her car and the insurance totaled it. So our Daughter drove my 1991 Mazda B2600i 2WD Cab Plus truck for well over a year, as I had the extra vehicle for her to drive......I reminded the wife about that also!

What would it have cost her/US if that Mazda truck wasn't sitting there and available for our Daughter? She started to agree that my cheap extra vehicles are not costing very much at all really!

Lol. They are amazing little trucks. And, looking at the overall picture, cheap to own if you do the work yourself. Most of what I spent was paying someone else, though cheap, still added up fast.

Way to convince the wife. I did that to the wife last night. She said, that ain't bad. It just seems like it all hit in the last two years. I started updating things about two years ago. Brakes, shocks, brake booster, battery, starter then this ordeal. Still overall, cheap to own when you look at it like that.
