Brichard I have a check engine light popped on after doing water pump timing belt and headgasket. I already swapped the plug under the dash. My question is will an overcharging alternator cause the light to come on ? When moving alternator out of the way I didn't notice the charge wire was pulled and came out of the connector. I'm guessing it messed up something internal as now the alternator is charging 14-15 volts
also the oil pressure sensor wire is that also in the harness that goes to the alternator?
No an overcharging alternator should not make the check engine light come on. If anything the CHARGE light should come on, but I think it only comes on if its NOT CHARGING OR you replace the bulb with an LED bulb, dont do that, as a regular 12v bulb is needed there.
Oil pressure sensor wire has nothing to do with this. Its bundled in the harness, but doesnt matter here. If the OIL light comes on, then you should investigate this wire or the sensor it plugs into.
