MazdaMitch Thank the lord I live in the Mississippi where we got rid of inspection stickers years ago, and after 25 years you can get a antique tag and thats the last tag you will ever purchase for the rest of that vehicles life.
NOW we can get a custom antique tag thats good for 5 years at a time, and basically still its free for life.
In five years you just tell them you still have it and you get a new 5 year sticker to put on it.
And.. no emissions testing.
The two largest counties in Arizona emissions-test back to 1967 year, but no emissions testing in the other 13 counties.
Arizona surcharges for either antique/historical plates:
License Plate-Personalized - $25.00 Initial fee for one year
License Plate-Specialty - $25.00 Initial fee for one year
License Plate-Specialty & Personalized - $50.00 Initial fee for one year
...and these special license plates require an annual fee of $25.
The annual vehicle license tax depends upon Arizona's value of the vehicle, and my '88 B2200, '98 Frontier, 1970 VW Beetle, and 1971 VW Beetle Convertible are all at the $10 minimum. So I don't currently have special plates.
However, when Arizona first allowed personalized plates in 1974 (back then: a $10 one-time fee), I got mine the very first day.

Then I became "famous" !!!
