Rear End Gearing

So I came across this from one of our members here on the forum, "These are 85 HP engines with a 3.90 rear axle ratio".

If that is true, do they make or can we swap another gear set to make the truck a little more friendly to highway cruising?
As the comment stated, they are 85hp engines, but here in Florida, if you're not doing 80 on the highway, you're getting things thrown at you, lol.

I mean my F-350 has 3:90 ratio and it can pull a house down, but my highway rpm suffers, I know tomato potato, but I'm sure the result will be similar. I also know, when I get to that part of the restoration, I'm gonna have to get something new anyhow.

OGMB2K IMO, the gearing isn't really the issue - it's the HP. I reckon we need about double what we have to get around. TX is pretty much the same with running higher speeds on the highways, etc. It's a struggle to get up to about 80mph and if there's a hill or high wind, well, I'm starting all over again lol.

I am running around 3100rpm at 80mph with my current tires. I'm totally okay with that, just would really love more HP got TO that speed, more quickly.

True ... well for my kid's first car, its fast enough. Knowing she will get tired of it, I am already planning to take it back when she needs a new car. That's when I'll drop my Turbo rotary in it and relive my mini truck days ... Brap Brap ..

Axel-Breaker-Earl Muahaha !! Already sourced the engine and trasmission. Gonna learn how to rebuild it myself ... So I have time ..
