Hello,
Does anyone know if a single din radio will fit in the space below the A/c vents in the dash? That would certainly free up valuable real estate for a custom center console. Has anyone ever done it?

Yes i have. You run into clearance issues behind the dash. Break out the dremel with a carbide burr bit an keep buzzing off metal till the radio fits. It will be pretty obvious where there is interference around the top.

It can if you do some cutting behind it.
They make smaller CD'less units now called media receiver units. They are only about 3.5 inches deep.
They are easier to fit in there.

Also, I certainly understand the tech, but it looks like any single DIN radio, some with more persuasion than others, will fit in the slot then .. Awesome !!!

OGMB2K most of the old single sins are 5 to 6 inches deep and you have to really work to get it in there.
You'll have to cut stuff and possibly the vents .

The new media units being only 3.5 inches deep are way easier to put in that spot.

MazdaMitch I was making a reference to the video for the radio showcasing the capabilities of extending car readings through your phone. That function of the radio however, would require interfacing with the OBDII port, which our trucks do not have ..
Poorly written humor .. that's all .. lol
