Power steering removal

Axel is correct and I had that same power steering bracket but no power steering on the red truck and I didn't have the proper bracket at the time so I took that to a big bandsaw and chopped off that part that sticks out in front towards the fan.

Bandsawed it and used the grinder to dress it up and it was fine.

OGMB2K Is there an isolated belt for just the A/C or does it share the PS pump too?

AC belt is separate from the power steering belt. For B2200:
Power steering belt Gates 9325
Alternator belt Gates 9365
Timing belt B2200 Gates T134
AC compressor belt Gates 9375 NAPA 25-9375

I have a header on mine so to keep the AC compressor away from the header best I can, I use another alternator belt.
Its shorter, and once you tighten it up, you are not close to the header.

Just a news nugget.

MazdaMitch Whoa Whoa Whoa .. Como? How does the header come in to play? My 2200 has a header, I also have the PS bracket, but currently no A/C compressor and no A/C compressor bracket.

Is it going to be easier to keep the PS in order to hang that compressor out and away from the header?
Does the header interfere with the PS too? That would explain why my PS pump was not bolted to the bracket and just sitting on the chassis on top of the steering box ... That or like I've said before this previous owner was a moron ...

OGMB2K since cusser posted belt numbers I was just posting a nugget of information for anyone running a header.

This was discussed numbers of times in the old Facebook group and I covered it in the AC videos on YouTube.

Has nothing to do with power steering.

Having PS or not the AC compressor will be mounted in the same spot and IF you have a pacesetter header IT WILL come close to it and possibly HIT the header when the compressor belt is tightened up, not to mention over time, readjusting the belt due to stretch.

SO that's why I said you can use a SHORTER belt.
Use another alternator belt.
That's for AC only.

Here is a picture of AC installed with a header and a short belt and you can see it is very close.

It is like less than a half inch from hitting.

Again this is with the shortest belt possible any short or you'll never get a belt on it.

Jeebus that's close !! Has the heat from the header had any effect on those lines or the performance of the A/C?

Axel's pics from above do not give a clear view of the compressor bolted in with the belts, but it would appear that using the PS bracket kicks the compressor out of the way of the header, or am I wrong?

No.
If it kicked it out any sort of way it would not line up with the crank pulley which drives it it has to be lined up.

Mine has a little more room there. The actual amount of clearance may also depend on what model A/C compressor is on the truck.

Axel-Breaker-Earl Thanks for that last photo, I can sleep a little better now. So as I start to source a new A/C compressor, I'll just be mindful of the overall size. I'm amazed it has no bearing on performance.

Compare the depth of the "rear cover/cap" on my A/C compressor and Mitch's.......Mitch's is much deeper and therefore closer to the header. Mitch's is a Sanden Model #7304......mine is a Sanden Model #U4456

When comparing the two models on Sanden's website, the Model #7304 shows a picture of the Model #U4456 with a serpentine type pulley......so I'm wondering if the style of compressor like Mitch's......has been discontinued?

I've seen this on the stock ac compressor as well. I still have the original. I ordered a new one because I wanted new. It's the same.

Here is a stock sanden 708 on my project truck with power steering.

As you can see even with the stock exhaust it's close to that so imagine having a header on it.

Done been down this road many times.

Different Sanden SD-708 models can have different AC clutch pulleys, different compressor body mounts, and/or different rear plates for the refrigerant lines connections. So not so straightforward.

The good thing is that if the compressor body mounts are the same, the AC clutch and the rear plate from a different compressor can be swapped over.
