How do we lift out the engine?

For those that have removed the engines out of your trucks, how'd you do it? My engine has one Loop/hook in the front of the engine, but not one in the rear. What is the anchor point in the rear to yank the motor out with or without the transmission?

OGMB2K I'm just about to embark on that and I would have started on it today if other things did not crop up...

Here are the two anchor points.

OGMB2K I just used a cherry picker and I took motor and trans out together I lowered the truck as low as I could get and get my picker under it

I find it easier to remove the engine separate from the transmission not all together.

Of course for me I use a chain hoist I don't have an engine lift or cherry picker as they call it with one of them angled chain things.

So for me it's always remove the hood, remove the starter, remove fuel lines, remove heater hoses, remove wiring, remove the fan, remove the fan shroud, possibly remove the radiator so it's not damaged, and pop up the transmission, unbolted, hook the chain hoist to the engine, undo the motor mounts, and start lifting the engine and wiggling it away from the transmission and just up up up and out.

I usually lift it up high push the truck out of the way lower the engine and bolt it up to an engine stand and cart it away.

I have done quite a few, just how Mitch has explained it. If I need to drop the trans, then I put the truck up on tall jack stands, and slide it out the side once dropped. Most of the time I don't need to drop the trans, so I clean up the bell housing area, and bolt the engine back up once rebuilt or fixed.

Aha ... getting ready to do the same, hopefully this weekend. I hadn't seen the eyelet on the back of the motor. Hopefully this engine has it. Like you, I thought it would be easier to remove the engine without the tranny.
I'll be using a gantry that'll make short work out of it once I get it hooked on.

My B2200 engine has both. You could always make one from thick metal like a Simpson Strong Tie (Home Depot) and drill holes.

OK as I figured .. What a surprise, My engine does not have the secondary plate near the back of the block. Therefore I was thinking of using a bolt through the exhaust as a lift point to get the engine out .. where the header bolts on to the block ...

Thoughts?

OGMB2K I wouldn't trust that you might snap off bolts in the cylinder head. They are way too little.

Just get up piece of metal and draw on it with a marker and cut it out with a grinder or something and bolt it up.

Not so easy with the engine inside the truck .. It's up on jack-stands, I'm short, and certainly can't see the spot in order to get an accurate measure of bolt positioning ..
It's a little higher than X's picture for reference ..

Go to harbor freight and get some of them purple 6-ft tow ropes and wrap it around the engine. That may work.

OGMB2K I had mine missing also I used the back half of header to remove it that way it's got more than 1 bolt to hold and I took motor and trans out together with a cherry picker

See if you can find a grade 8 bolt that will fit the hole on the back of the black and run it through a chain and tighten it up.

I was on that trail as well .. I will be pulling the engine tomorrow. I will document the event and share ..

Project got moved back to next weekend, unfortunately .. just gives me more time to ponder and buy more parts.. lol
