While I was cleaning the old gasket material off, and I found the reason why this truck was condemned. It looks like there was a piece of metal maybe the sparkplug tip that fell into the cylinder and got lodged into the head, there is a pretty deep gash on the head as well as the metal piece sticking out. There is some minor pitting in a few other spots as well. Another gash on the piston looks like it lines up with the gash on the head as well as another gash close to the edge of piston, there is no major damage the walls of the cylinder on first inspection
I have very little experience with engines. Obviously damage like this I think would warrant a full rebuild but I wanted to keep this project DIY and low budget. I don't have the tools to remove the block. with the placement of the damage, I can resurface the head and still be able to get it flat, but the gouges will remain. Am I SOL or can I make this work?
