Hauling heavy cargo

Dang I was hauling about 800 lbs of cargo in the B2200's bed and the little truck didn't seem to mind. This was the first time I had the bed full of heavy cargo, I was impressed.

I also haul motorcycles, I wouldn't mind to lower the Mazda 2 inches to make loading/unloading easier with lower ramp height (and a more sporty look). But no more than 2 inches as I need to haul heavy stuff sometimes and I can't be bouncing around after a 5-inch drop looking like a bobblehead doll.

There's always a Goldilocks zone...

If you can find them these days you can do like I do and run Gabriel hijacker air shocks on the rear to lift it up on occasion.

That's what I have on my 1971 VW Convertible to raise its droppy rear end; easier than trial and error of re-setting its torsion bars to raise it.

I once had a big load of gravel/rocks for my yard in my Cab Plus, and while driving it home I could tell that my steering was a little funky, as too-little weight on the front end.

RockAuto also sells helper springs that they claim adds another 1000 lbs capacity........don't know if the rear tires would be happy, but they do help limit the squat......especially for the Cab Plus models, where the bed overhangs the rear axle more than the Regular Cab trucks.

This was my B2000 truck that I built a 2.2 engine for.......yes I did haul this sod (slowly!) about 5-6 miles, mostly uphill! I passed a cop writing someone a traffic ticket, alongside the road.......you should have seen the double look that I got from him!

Those were two full pallets of sod......you can see that I had to take a bunch of it off the top of the two pallets and load it on the front of the trailer........to get some tongue weight.......the skidsteer could only side the pallets up so far. The truck did fine actually, but I did have to ride the clutch a tad to get moving, and I worked up some speed to make it to the top of the larger hill.......I probably won't do it again though! I typically would use my 2500HD truck in that picture, but it's long (8' bed & Crew Cab) and I had to turn the trailer around in an older subdivision with a small Cul-De-Sac at the end of the subdivision road........so I took my Mazda! 🙂

I'm sure to some degree, you can haul almost anything considering two basic principles;

1 - Proper weight distribution / tongue weight
2 - a trailer with brakes

Chances are your brakes will fail long before the trucks capacity to haul will. Because they are so light, without trailer brakes, you'll just get pushed when you try to stop.
