Connecting rod bearing replacement.

I was wondering if I could get some advice from somebody. That has rebuilt an engine before. I bought a 91 Mazda B2200 with rodnock. I have bearings. I was planning to replace the rod bearings, but someone told me that it might be a bad idea for someone that has never replaced bearings before.

If the rod bearing has "Spun" (highly likely) then just replacing the bearings might be a short lived fix. I'm assuming that you are going to leave the engine in place, and remove the oil pan to do this......am I correct in thinking this?

If you do this, always do one rod at a time, and pay attention to which way the rad CAP is facing and reinstall it in the same direction. Post your progress, or questions here and we will do our best to answer them as you are doing the work.

I actually did replace my connecting rod bearings, and without pulling the engine. My crankshaft journals looked good, so I pulled the oil pan and replaced with standard-size connecting rod bearings.

you need to know the condition & size of the crank and rod before putting a bearing in, new bearing on a worn and scored crank and rod won't do any good.

I do not think the bearing has spun. It is tapping a little bit. I had an xterra couple years ago that actually spun a bearing and it was banging really hard. I have a standard size bearing. I was planning on pulling the oil pan but I'm not sure if I should.

I am still driving the vehicle back-and-forth to work. It is the only vehicle I have. My Toyota Camry is at the dealership because it will not start.

How about new sway bar bushings? Your invisible ones likely do a substandard job.

These trucks handle really well in stock form, so I don't think you will notice $200+ difference with the Belltech sway bar & bushings. I would buy the replacement rubber bushings and save that money to fix the engine, if I were you.

New sway bar bushings are not expensive and easy to install too.

Oh my God, part stores never have anything in stock for this truck. OK, so I got the oil PAN off. But there is a bracket between the oil PAN and the c
rank.. Does that bracket come off?

I tried jamming a razor blade between. Maybe the bottom of the block and that bracket I couldn't find a seal.

OK first off someone has been in there before, see that cork gasket, thats a no go and was probably leaking anyways,. They dont come from the factory that way and not recommended to use one going forward. All that is needed is oil resistant RTV.
What you are looking at is the windage tray.
Slide a putty knife in between the bottom of the block and the tray and cork mess and work your way around it.

Mitch thanks for the advice.I was just watching your mile.Per gallon video. They have supposedly rebuilt the top end of the motor in 2016. But the rings are gone. It has what I think is rear main seal leak, but it could be from the oil PAN.
