Some interesting info about using diesel oil in gas engines

Nothing to worry about....

Even in the comments this is basically a misleading a video.

"Lake: Rotella T6 says it is safe for gas, diesel, and even motorcycles. You should make a video about this engine oil."

Just keep going through the videos comments. Everyone is against this video and calling BS.

First off our truck engines are not direct injection engines.

Also between 86-93 for these truck years the oil of that time was heavy on the zinc.
I do know. I worked in oil for a long time.

What Lake talked about the most was turbo charged, high compression, direct injection engines, which is not what is in these trucks.

Oh and that gunk on the valves, that is common on direct injection engines because the fuel sprays on top of pistons and not washed over the intake valves like they do in regular FI engines and/or carbed engines.

I run Rotella T6 5w40 in my Dodge Charger as well, and its not a Direct Injection engine.

In that video, the crusty valves, that is oil vapor settling on the valves and getting baked on.
That is why I run a an oil catch can on my vehicles, and everyone should on all types of engines, but especially on DI engines.

He doesn't just cover GDI engines. He mentions that wear on non-diesel engines was higher when using diesel oils.

I am sharing with the forum for consideration when choosing oils. It's fine by me if someone wants to use canola oil, or any other oil in their engine.

I am a huge fanboi of Lucas products and I get hate for it all the time. It's all good man. I am just glad we can chat about dumb stuff like this.

I mean for all we know they had a crappy cam in the testing.

In all my years, there has never been an issue.

Guys that race cars use Delo and when they take the engine apart, its soo clean and can hardly hold onto the parts. So slippery.

MazdaMitch Please don't write off Lake's video. He does an outstanding job in testing and being very transparent in those tests. He's very agnostic about oils. He "holds multiple certifications from the Society of Tribologists & Lubrication Engineers. Lake also formulated the lubricants used by Joe Gibbs Racing (and other professional teams) to win the Daytona 500 and numerous NASCAR championships." That said, he won't take sides - he just shares the data and it is what it is. That's what I'm doing. I really don't care what oil ya'll use - but some people like this kind of stuff.

He's pitted premium oils against el cheapo brands and shared the results - even if they were better than a brand he thought might "win the contest".

He shouldn't be dismissed so easily. Just sayin'.

At the end of the day, a person is going to use what they are comfortable using......no matter the product. Mitch has had good if not great success with the oil he is using.......I like Valvoline oils, and pretty much only buy that brand to use in all of my vehicles, and I have had wonderful success with it.

Instead of all of the "oil testing" that he does, I favor the tried and true method......like Mitch apparently does. And Mitch has some valid points in the fact that some of his testing was on DGI engines.......and they are a whole different animal than what we are driving, and discussing on this forum.

So me, I will stick with my real world results, and keep using what I always have been. Discussion is good though!

Axel-Breaker-Earl Yep - all good. I use Lucas oil in my Mazda, my motorcycles, and will not change. My wife's hemi is running Royal Purple. So you can see I'm not anti-this or anti-that. I was sharing info - that's all; and trying to be thorough in 'why' I shared it.

This is project farm he's a thorough tester and he did it multipart video series on testing several oils.

In the end it came down to two to battle it out for the number one spot.

And as most of you know if any of you know amsoil is very expensive and usually has to be ordered.

I'll save you the suspense amsoil come out number one and Pennzoil came out number two.

This just also further backs up 540 rats thorough testing in his blog format that I posted above which by the way is very extensive and will take you weeks to read it all, but that is why I use Pennzoil in the wifes GDI engine.

I used to use it in my charger but I have since swapped it over to the rotella t6!
