How much hp can the transmission hold?

So I am watching a flake garage newest video. He is basically taking a Miata bell housing and putting it on the b2200 transmission and then using an adapter from a company to then convert a Honda k24 engine to Miata bell housing. Making it possible to use a b2200 transmission with a Honda k24. Well I have been wanting to do this swap for a while now but use a 350z transmission. I want to turbo the motor and make a lot of power. My question is, should I stick with the 350z transmission or would the b2200 transmission hold about 500 hp possibly?

Transmissions are a little different - they are rated by torque, not HP. I know that's a can of worms for some folks, but that's the truth.

MazdaTrix used to have a chart ranking the Mazda RX-7's transmissions. The FB (First Gen RX7) shares a lot of parts, including bearings, bushings and so forth, with the B-series 5-speed. So, you might get a clue there - the FB's transmission can handle quite a bit, but the FC can handle a bit more, and the FD, even more (I think). Again, there used to be a chart w/ all of this.

I also saw a video of a guy w/ a turbo-charged B-series (our engine) and very likely a stock transmission, making 350 wheel horsepower. There was nothing about torque numbers, but I bet it wasn't far off the HP figures. That was a single YouTube short, and I am trying to find it as I'm typing this response to you.

If it were me, I would try to find a transmission that I know could handle the torque numbers you're likely to hit w/ your setup. There's a lot of candidates, including automatics that can definitely keep you safe, and help out a lot in drag racing due to faster shifting and better launches (assuming this is what you're after since the b-series don't handle like Miatas).

However, part of me is rooting you on, just to see what you're able to do w/ the stock one....

kz6fittycent well I’m not 100 percent on trying this yet. The truck is on air ride and I just wanna make it fun. I’ve been planning on using a Nissan 350z transmission because they are used in 800 hp drift cars and are known to handle abuse. It’ll be a lot cheaper to use the stock transmission in the b2200. I might try to use the stock transmission and then if it blows, it blows. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t. If it does blow then I’ll replace with a 350z transmission.

kz6fittycent well I was reading the comments and he said it made 200hp on that setup. He said he has a new setup that makes 300hp. Said the torque was around the same as the hp.

The stock rear end differential has a 3:90 gear ratio and if you double the horsepower you're going to have some excellent performance out of these B trucks.

Red91EFI mine doesn’t have the stock rear end. I swapped the rear end with a Toyota rear end to switch it to 5x114.3 lug pattern.

Their are two ways to do this ...
#1 - go with what has been proven with that set up already. Yes it is more pricey, but you know the result.

#2 - Do it like my friend that owns Blo By Racing, a performance shop for Mustangs. He basically takes a new factory mustang and runs it on the track until he blows the engine. Then he breaks it down and sees what was the weak link, redesigns, re-installs and repeats until the next item breaks. Eventually he is often the first to market with high horsepower bullet proof upgrades for the latest Mustangs.

If you say its for fun, go your route, motor first, put it through its paces and see if the tranny blows. Then upgrade the tranny and see if the driveline holds, upgrade if necessary and see if the rear end holds up. In the end you will have built the set up necessary to accommodate the HP/Torque you need.
