Today we’re taking the Mazda B2200 engine block from rough to ready. In this video I hone the cylinders, put a new crosshatch pattern on the walls, then deep-clean the entire block inside and out. After that, everything gets taped off and prepped for a fresh coat of paint to protect the block and make the engine bay look clean once it’s back in the truck.
If you’re rebuilding one of these Mazda B-Series 2.0/2.2 engines, this step is crucial for good ring seal, proper oil control, and long-term reliability. I’ll show the tools I used, the honing pattern, how I clean the block thoroughly, and how I prep it for paint.
