Listen, it may be a stretch, but that filter might be restriction flow.

Also if it were me, I would spend the money and get a genuine Mazda OEM fuel pump.
That pump you have has been known to mess up and it may actually be weak.

I completely removed the filter to test that issue without change. I just put it back on yesterday.
I'm going to put the OEM style back on.

If you can, send me a link to the pump you would get and that is what I will order.
Of course at the best price you can find 🙂

When we ever get this fixed, it'll be one for the books to help somebody else.

I just saw your photos. It looks like you used red RTV on the carburetor/adapter gaskets; I hate to break the news to you, but RTV is NOT gasoline resistant. You're just asking for problems there; I'd take that stuff apart and remove the RTV and use brown Permatex Aviation.

I started tearing into the engine today. Once I got the head off,
I found that the #3 intake on the manifold shows burn/blowback in it. See picture.
The #3 cylinder piston top also looks a little cleaner than the others but I didn't have time today
to get it top dead center today to get a good picture. The one below is a little deceiving.

I'm going to have to check into this further tomorrow to find the cause.
Ill pull the springs off of the #3 intake valve, check it out and also pull the valve and check
for anything that would cause it not to seat well.

The head gasket look good and so far, also I don't see sign of cracks on the head or block.

PROBLEM FOUND:
Never buy a head from Ebay.
Buy once cry once. This has been a head ach.
components started falling apart in the head.
Now Im going to have to tear down the lower end and the oil pump to make sure I get all the pieces out.

rev10eight I've seen this a few times with others, and it's never happened to me, so I got to ask this question.

When you got this head off eBay did you adjust the valves or just slap the head on?

The reason I ask is because maybe the eBay head was no set properly and the valve lash was tooooo tight, this wiping the cam?

The other thing that could have happened was the valve train oil rails, if the exhaust side flipped, the oil hole will not be lined up and starve the cam of oil.

After installing the head, I had to adjust the valves. I never trust out of the box state. They would have been too tight the way they came as they were way out of adjustment.

I didn't check the alignment of the oil port. I didn't even think about it, but as I have it all torn apart, I can check it when i get home.

rev10eight I looked at the settings, and it was set to allow deleting own posts if within 10 mins of posting.
Maybe it was out of that time range, so I set it to forever.

Well......I do believe that you have found the source of your engine issue! Unfortunately, this means that you have metal circulating throughout the entire oiling system......crank and rod bearings will show wear from this. Pull your oil filter and cut it open to see how much metal is in it also.

This totally sucks for sure. As Mitch said, disassemble the head and post pictures of the parts and their orientation as you remove them. I don't know where you are located, but if you were close to me (Gainesville, FL.) I would be willing to help you with the process. I know these engines well, and have rebuilt a few of them over the years.

You were right and called it a while back about being the cam and valve train system.

I just took this by a machine shop, he said that was from an oil starved condition. And by the way, those are not some type of ears or retaining guides on the cam, that's how much they have when down in 4000 miles.
