I think i figured it out. Will test in the morning.
Its currently 235am EST.
Laying in bed, I remembered something.
Yesterday, as i was testing the vacuum line from my distributor to the carb, I missed something and now feel stupid.
I disconnected the ine and sucked/blew through it while capping the other end to test for leaks. It was good. I then hooked it up to the carb and blew through it to make sure the port was clear on the carb. Air went through fine.
*Then I unhooked the line from the carb, leaving it hooked up to the vacuum advance port on the distributor and sucked on the other end. No restriction, air pulled right through. (Update: it did not have a leak. It just felt like it did. Once I replaced it and checked it, it was working as it should but i kept the new distributor on it anyway.)
It's was about 2am and im thinking about this. This should have not allowed air to pass through. Ive got a bad diaphragm on the vacuum adv. What an idiot...
So this is two problems.
- The vacuum advance will not work.
- It's a vacuum leak.
Of course I wasnt going to spray carb cleaner on a distributor to check for a leak. I may be an idiot but im not stupid.
I've already have a new carb and distributor on the way but tomorrow morning I'm going to the parts house and see if i can get a new diaphragm for this.
