Windshield wipers operate, but SLOW

Cusser I'll investigate in a few weeks. The wiper motor seems straightforward to remove, guess I'll figure out how to get the linkage out once I remove the cowl. All I have is pages S-12 and S-13 in the service manual.

By chance, does anyone know if removing the wiper linkage needs any specialty tools like my gear pullers?

Cusser no it just unbolts and you can pull the wiper arm assembly out from the cowl area.

Now as far as taking the joints apart I don't know.

Yes, that helps some. I didn't see such wiper bushing part number listed in your list of parts at https://mazdaminitruckin.com/parts-list/ and couldn't find using Google.

There might be some aftermarket ones made in Thailand, listed on Ebay. I'll be taking apart and doing a look-see. Being in Arizona, mine can't be worn out from use !!!

Cusser they're just plastic pop-ins so they may just be brittle and old or something?

I never could find any when I was looking before.

would be awesome if someone had the skills to make a 3d cad model of these kinds of hard to find parts. then you could possibly 3d print an stl file or send it to a company to get made. not sure what plastic it would be made out of tho.

would a brass busing be usable in this situation? seems like something someone could whip up on a lathe fairly quickly.

I'll also want to paint the wiper arms black while I have them off. I have some decent-quality black spray paint in matte - or should I get get some flat black instead????

I just followed the manual a little bit when I rebuilt mine.

I rebuilt it, and nothing was different. The slowness was the armeture worn out.

OK, I went through and lubed my wiper linkage today, and got it all put together again, looks like a success. I wrote this up as a How-To for Mitch to add to the Tech Section, if he wants.

I've ordered some 1/2" x 1/8" thick self-adhesive foam tape (Amazon) to replace the worn/torn gaskets under the covers below the cowl. I have an assortment of Harbor Freight panel fasteners here that I'll take for the cowl rubber seal and two end fasteners.

On my truck, I made little plastic covers to exclude hot outside air from getting in to help the AC, as our summer outside air 3 feet above the pavement can be 140F. These can be seen here.

oh that is a top idea! summers here in australia can be brutal. my ac doesnt work atm, and anything to try and stop the heat getting in is worth a try.

That's what ReCirc does.
It is a big trap door that's seals off the outside air.

That depends on the material that was used on the steel flap door originally. The earlier trucks (1986 & 1987 for sure) had a vinyl covered soft foam that has held up really well over the years, but the later models used the plain foam that deteriorates rather quickly.......you never get a true seal on "recycle" with it.

ReCirc/Recirculation mode always lets in SOME outside air, for safety, for those that don't know to open the window a bit every two hours.

Cusser mine run pretty slow and won't move at all really if it'd not running ? Is your pretty much dead if not running
